The killing led to violent protests by parents of other students before Gurugram police announced the arrest of the bus conductor.
New Delhi: A seven-year-old student of class 2 at Ryan International School in Bhondsi, Gurugram was killed on the school’s premises on Friday, allegedly by its bus conductor.
The killing led to violent protests by parents of other students before Gurugram police announced the arrest of the conductor, Ashok Kumar, who hails from Ghamroj village in Haryana.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, a medical team that conducted the post-mortem examination said the victim’s throat was slit twice.
Deputy commissioner of police Simardeep Singh told NDTV, “Bus conductor Ashok attempted to sexually assault the boy, when he raised an alarm the conductor killed him… Accused had been working here for the past six to eight months. He had gone to use the toilet where he saw the boy. He was not targeting that particular child, only when he saw the boy, he thought of assaulting him. He had the knife with him in his pocket”.
Investigators have retrieved footage from one of the 16 CCTV cameras in the school, which they said is vital to establish his guilt in the case.
According to a report in the Indian Express, the boy was found inside the bathroom by the school’s gardener, who raised the alarm. According to investigators, Ashok Kumar rushed forward and started crying for help, too. “He tried to hold the boy’s body and cried for help. He created a lot of drama to distract police,” the report said.
“The accused was detained along with two other staffers who were questioned. Ashok confessed to his involvement in the crime,” Birem Singh, ACP, Sohna Road told the Indian Express.
According to the police, Ashok has been with the school for the last four months.
The boy’s father claims the school had said that this was an accident. Demanding that the school principal be named in the FIR, he told the Indian Express, “We hold not only the killer but also those who let him inside the gate with a knife responsible for the killing of my son.”
Last year, a branch of Ryan International school in Vasant Kunj was accused of criminal negligence after a six-year-old student of class 1 was found dead in a water tank.
