Tamil Nadu chief minister O. Panneerselvam proposed V.K. Sasikala as AIADMK legislature party leader, PTI said in a news alert.
According to the Hindu, she has been unanimously elected as the party’s legislature leader. She had been it general secretary. The report also said that AIADMK had tweeted saying, “Chinnamma (Sasikala) all set to become the Next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”
Panneerselvam had reportedly removed the loyalists of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa from the higher echelons of the party’s administration on February 3. A report in the Indian Express suggests this was done at the behest of Sasikala’s husband, M. Natarajan, who is said to have mentored Jayalalithaa after M.G. Ramachandran’s death.
